TAYLOR REGIONAL HOSPITAL AWARDED KENTUCKY HOSPITAL ASSOCIATION’S ANNUAL QUALITY AWARD
Taylor Regional Hospital was awarded the Kentucky Hospital Association’s (KHA) Annual Quality Award, the KHA’s highest quality honor, on May 14, 2007, at the KHA Award’s Gala in Louisville. Taylor Regional Hospital was one of 14 applicants for four awards. This award seeks to increase understanding of the value of organizational focus and commitment to achieving optimal outcomes. The award is presented to honor hospital leadership and innovation inquality, safety, and commitment in patient care. The goals of this award are to:

Raise awareness of the need for an organization-wide commitment to highly reliable, exceptional quality, patient-centered care

Reward successful efforts to develop and promote a systems-based approach toward improvements in quality of care

Inspire organizations to systematically integrate and align their quality improvement efforts throughout the organization

Communicate successful programs and strategies to the hospital field

Facilitate Kentucky hospitals’ alignment of quality initiatives with national initiatives
Taylor Regional Hospital was honored for its work in the area of preventing healthcare associated infections. As a participant in the Institute of Healthcare Improvement 100K Lives Campaign, TRH successfully implemented the “Central Line Bundle” which consists of five evidenced based components that have been shown to decrease the rate of central line associated bloodstream infections. The quality improvement project resulted in greater than a 75% decrease in central line infections throughout the hospital in 2006.
Other hospitals receiving the 2006 KHA Annual Quality Award Include Our Lady of the Way Hospital, Martin; The VA Medical Center, Lexington; and Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington.
Team members at Taylor Regional Hospital who had a key role in achieving this award were: Jane Wheatley, CEO; Jane Cook, NSA; Denise Billingsley, Director of Care Management; Nena Hoenck, Med/Surg Director; Dana Garrett, ICU Director; Loretta Hash, Infection Control Coordinator. Physicians who played a key role were Dr. Joel Eade & Dr. James Watkins.
