Taylor Regional Hospital to Implement New
PACS Imaging Technology
Taylor Regional Hospital is taking radiology to the next level by installing PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) by AMICAS. The new PACS system enables images such as x-rays and scans to be stored electronically and viewed on monitors, so that doctors and other healthcare professionals can access the information very quickly and compare it with previous images, if necessary, at the touch of a button. AMICAS PACS will expedite the high quality of care already delivered at Taylor Regional Hospital.
“The installation of the new PACS system will improve both the quality and efficiency of the radiology services we provide to our patients,” said Doug Ruggles, Director of Radiology. “Our investment in this advanced imaging technology will dramatically decrease the time it takes physicians to receive an imaging report and see their patients’ x-rays.”
"Taylor Regional Hospital continues to advance healthcare for our community. The addition of new, innovative technology such as PACS is just another example of Taylor Regional Hospital going above and beyond to ensure the best patient care,” said Jane Wheatley, CEO.
Through a secure Web site, PACS establishes image communication between the radiologist and the referring physician – at their office, home, or even another part of the hospital. This translates into less time for the patient to wait for the results of their tests, which means faster diagnosis and treatment. All of this takes access possibilities to a whole new level and significantly changes the traditionally limited view people had in the film-based radiology world.
Another benefit of this digital technology is that the old “films” will no longer be used. No more processing times and no need for patients to carry large envelopes from physician to physician. Soon patients will be able to take their images with them in a more modern format, either CD or DVD, when needed.
"In addition to the recruitment of specialized physicians and highly trained staff, Taylor Regional Hospital continues to focus on compassionate care with the latest advancements in medical technology," said Ms. Wheatley.
The new PACS system will also mean less re-testing and ultimately lower radiation dosage for the patients at Taylor Regional Hospital.
